BOBBIO
Bobbio is a small town located in the heart of Val Trebbia. This valley described by Ernest Hemingway as “the most beautiful of the world”. It’s also located at the foot of Monte Penice.
The historical center and heart of the city has maintained the characteristics of the medieval village.
The highlight of the city is the Ponte Vecchio also called Ponte Gobbo (Hunchback Bridge). The other name is Devil’s Bridge. It is an ancient Roman stone bridge which crosses the river Trebbia in eleven irregular arches. The lenght of the bridge is 280 meters. From it’s different shape it is commonly called the “Hunchback Bridge”.
The famous legend tells that it was built by the Devil (that’s why it’s also called Devil’s Bridge) in one night after he made a pact with Saint Columbanus who promised him the soul of the first passerby. But when the birdge was finished the Irish Saint sent a dog. The other legend says that a man tricks Satan into rebuilding it after it has been destroyed by a flood. The bridge was reconstructed after flood damage in the 16th and 17th century.
The Cathedral
