Arona (Italy)
Arona is a pleasant town on Lake Maggiore in Italy.
Its main economic activity is tourism, especially from Milan, Germany and France.
Archaeological findings have shown that the area of what today is Arona was settled from the 18thโ13th centuries BC. Later it was a possession of the Celts, the Romans and the Lombards.
After the siege and destruction of Milan in 1162 many of the exiled took refuge in Arona. Later the city was a possession of the Torriani (Della Torre) family which was an Italian noble family who rose to prominence in Lombrady during the 12th โ 14th centuries until they held the lordship of Milan before being ousted by Visconti family was one of the two noble Italian dynasties of the middle ages. In the early 14th century the city became a free commune under the suzerainty of the abbey.
In 1439 it was acquired by arristocratic Borromeo family who are the merchants at San Miniato and became bankers at Milan.
There are always good restaurants in any Italian city. In Arona my discovery was Aldo, where you can see lots of local people. I can say that it was not a touristy restaurant. If you want to be with locals this is a nice cozy place.
